Students are placed into respective classes depending on ability, age, strength, and previous training. placement of students will be at the sole discretion of the director. Students whoattend classes more frequently progress much faster than those who do not.
Students should arrive 10 minutes before their scheduled class and be picked up promptly when they are finished. Maintaining a tight schedule is very difficult when students arrive late for class. Please do not rely on later class schedules as a buffer time for picking up your child, as schedules may change.
Tuition is due by your child's first scheduled class of the month. Tuition not paid by the 10th of the month will have a $10 late fee added. A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks. Monthly tuition is based on a year's fee and is split into nine equal monthly payments.
If SALEM CITY SCHOOLS close because of weather, so will The Dance Centre. Make-up classes will be scheduled for cancellations due to bad weather. The Dance Centre does not close for teacher work days or other Salem or Roanoke school-specific closings. Please keep and refer to HOLIDAY listings in the IMPORTANT DATES section. Students may make up classes missed due to illness, or other conflicts, in lower level classes.
Parents are asked to read and be awareof all notices postedon the school bulletin board.
No food or beverages (other than water) are allowedon the first level of the studio.
Students and parents are asked to respect and follow the rules and regulationsof the school. The school reserves the right to suspend or dismiss a student who attitude or conduct has become unsatisfactory. A student's tuition will not be refunded if he or she is dismissed from The Dance Centre.
All full time students are required to participate in the annual school performance in May.
Classes that do not meet a required student minimum enrollment will be cancelled. Tuition will be refunded only when a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.
A one-month advance written notice is required if a student wishes to withdraw from the school before the end of the year. One month of tuition (including any overdue tuition) will be due when the written notice of withdrawal is received. Because costumes are made to order and are not returnable, any remaining costume balances will be the responsibility of the student's parents.

The Nutcracker’s beautiful music, lush scenery and lavish costumes set the perfect backdrop for E.T.A. Hoffmann’s timeless story. Young imaginations will be sparked and audiences of all ages delighted as a Christmas tree grows to huge proportions, mice and soldiers battle, and waltzing Snowflakes whirl about amidst “real” falling snow. Children will especially enjoy seeing candies and sweets from exotic lands come to life and a gigantic Mother Ginger as she plays with her many ginger children.
This year will mark Southwest Virginia Ballet’s fifteenth performance of The Nutcracker, a holiday tradition for many families, and core part of the region’s Christmas festivities. According to Mike Lawson, SVB Executive Director, the cast of 160 represents more than 50 area schools from across the Greater Roanoke Valley. The Nutcracker brings neighboring communities together in support of the performing arts. It creates opportunities for youth to perform in the most well-known and beloved story ballet of all times. It carries forward a holiday tradition that has endured for over 100 years. And for many area residents, having a chance to dance in The Nutcracker is simply a dream come true.
